Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is an acute fulminating illness whose major. clinical manifestations are thromboeytopenia, hemolytic anemia with characteristically fragmented red cells, changing neurologic findings, fever, jaundice with both direct and indirect bilirubinemia, and renal abnormalities.
We recently experienced a case of TTP in a 41year-old Korean woman with microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenie purpura, convulsions, coma and acute renal failure.
She died suddenly during peritoneal dialysis on the third hospital day.
The clinical manifestations was atypical and resembled the hemolytic-uremic syndrome, commonly seen in children. This case is reported in the hope that in the future earlier diagnosis may lead to more effective therapy.
